A merger has redrawn the org chart, a new site has opened at the other end of the country, or hybrid working has quietly erased the connections that used to form around the kettle. The team drifts apart, and an internal newsletter or an annual away day no longer rebuilds a shared culture. The market talks about "team building apps" and "employee engagement apps", but the question is which solution keeps employee connection alive every day, without becoming the compulsory team building that people avoid. We compare four players here, based on their public information: United Heroes, Big Team Challenge, Scavify and Squadeasy. One caveat first: among the vendors we reviewed, few position themselves clearly on team cohesion, so the comparison is between different kinds of offers. Our reading grid: coverage of connection, continuity over time, support and culture content, and data security.

How to choose a team cohesion solution
Team cohesion cannot be decreed in one day. Five criteria separate a team building tool used once a quarter from a solution that connects a dispersed organisation all year.
The five decisive criteria
Questions to ask before you buy
- Does the solution connect employees beyond their direct team, across sites, business units and entities?
- What happens after the first campaign? Does connection keep going without manual reminders?
- Who produces the culture and collaboration content: the vendor, or only your internal teams?
- Which security certification can the vendor show, and does it cover the whole platform?
- Does the solution work for frontline employees, not only for office teams?
- Can the same solution cover other topics, such as wellbeing or CSR, so you avoid stacking tools?
The players on team cohesion
Here is how the four players position themselves on team cohesion, based on public information.
United Heroes

United Heroes is a mobile solution that covers four use cases, including team cohesion and employee connection. It relies on a Community tab, private groups and thematic Streams to keep culture and collaboration going continuously, complemented by a team leaderboard, Events and dataviz reporting for internal teams. Challenges and Streaks add a shared daily rhythm. The solution is aimed at organisations that want to connect people at scale, across sites and entities, with the same solution that also covers wellbeing, solidarity and CSR, and change management. It is used by 1,000+ organisations and 3 million users in 150 countries, in 30+ languages, and is B Corp and ISO/IEC 27001 certified. The brand signature is "Together in action".
Big Team Challenge

Big Team Challenge is a Scottish provider of virtual activity challenges [1]. For cohesion, its relevant features are team creation, invitations and chat, and three leaderboards: total team distance, average team distance and total individual distance [1]. Admins can segment by department or region [1]. It is a simple way to give existing teams a shared goal over a defined period. The page we read shows no security certification and does not describe culture content [1].
Scavify

Scavify describes itself as a scavenger hunt app for team building, events, gamification, onboarding and tours [2]. Its challenges include photo, video, QR code, quiz and GPS tasks, run from a mobile browser without a download, with a live leaderboard, notifications and an analytics dashboard, in virtual or in-person formats [2]. This makes it a strong fit for team building sessions and events. It is more event-led than continuous. The page we read shows no security certification [2].
Squadeasy

Squadeasy is a French provider, created in 2014, that positions itself first as a cohesion application [3][4]. It is a European alternative in this panel, with an English site but no visible UK presence. Its mechanics rely on gamified connected challenges that include physical activity tracking, a social wall and messaging, and the application exists in 13 languages [3].

Which solution for which cohesion context?
One team wants a structured cohesion dynamic over a set period. Big Team Challenge or Squadeasy, with shared challenges and a social layer, offer a structured dynamic for an existing team over a set period.
A company wants a memorable shared moment. For a kickoff or a company day, Scavify is built for a dated, in-person or virtual event.
A multi-site group, or one formed by a merger, wants a sense of belonging that lasts. United Heroes, with its Community tab, private groups and Streams, builds connection continuously, beyond a single team or a single event.
An organisation also wants wellbeing or CSR without multiplying tools. United Heroes covers the four use cases with the same solution, which avoids one tool per topic. If wellbeing is your first topic, our quality of work life guide explains the choice.
Why United Heroes for team cohesion?
Connection that goes beyond the team. The Community tab and private groups connect employees beyond their direct team, across sites and entities, where a classic team challenge stays inside a group that already exists.
Continuity, not a one-off. Thematic Streams and a daily Streaks rhythm keep connection alive all year, not only for a campaign or an event.
One solution for several needs. United Heroes covers team cohesion, wellbeing, solidarity and CSR, and change management with the same solution, so a dispersed organisation does not manage one tool per topic. See how it works.
Security and scale. United Heroes is ISO/IEC 27001 and B Corp certified, and serves 1,000+ organisations and 3 million users in 150 countries. Together in action is our brand signature.
FAQ
What is the best team cohesion app for a multi-site company?
A company with several sites needs a solution that connects people beyond their direct team, not only a challenge within one team. Coverage of connection is the first criterion to check.
Which team building app also works for frontline employees?
Check that the app works on mobile, without a fixed workstation, and that it is available in the languages your frontline teams speak. Ask each vendor directly, because public data on this point is uneven.
Can an employee engagement app also cover wellbeing or CSR?
Some solutions, such as United Heroes, are designed to cover several use cases with the same solution, including wellbeing and CSR. Other players stay centred on one topic, such as activity challenges or events.
How do you avoid the compulsory team building effect?
Employees should be able to choose to take part, rather than endure an imposed activity. That means content people want to open instead of one programme applied to everyone, and continuity that gives each person time to adopt the app, rather than a spike of activity in one week.
